Nusa Dua's main beach is a sheltered bay with a sandy/shallow bottom and small, mellow, forgiving waves, the default classroom for almost every lesson operator here, well suited to complete beginners and families. The reef passes that actually give the area its surf reputation (Sri Lanka in front of Club Med, Geger Right, Mushroom Rock, Nikko) are shallow coral-reef breaks for advanced surfers only. Best season is the SW dry-season swell window (roughly April-October) at mid-to-high tide; the beginner bay works most tides. Crowds at the teaching beach are light compared to Canggu or Kuta; the reef passes get busy only on good swell. Tanjung Benoa itself is a flat-water lagoon dominated by jet-ski/parasailing operators, no surf schools were found actually operating there; it is included here as the spot's secondary placename only.
