Best at mid-to-high tide (rocks expose at low tide, booties recommended, ~Rp30k to rent); works most of the year but is least crowded and most consistent April-October. Far fewer people in the water than Canggu or Kuta, a handful of local schools and warungs share the lineup, not tour buses.
